EDISON PARK, Ill. (February 17, 2015) – The Curragh Traditional Irish Pub is breaking the March 17 tradition of wearing green and joining forces with UNICEF for a “blue bash” to combat child poverty for its annual St. Patrick’s Day Party. The event’s directive, “For every shamrock, for every child in need” encourages the community to support the cause while celebrating the holiday. The event begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at the Edison Park location in Chicago.
“We’ve had tremendous success as a restaurant and couldn’t be more thankful for our loyal customers. It is now our time to give back, to the community, and the world,” said Paul Leongas, owner of the pub. For every beer purchased, the pub will donate $1 toward UNICEF.
“We are asking attendees to show their support by accompanying their green attire with sky blue accents, UNICEF’s trademark color,” said Leongas. Specially made t-shirts for the event will also be available for sale; all proceeds will go to UNICEF. “We have great beer specials, too, which will help accumulate more donations.”
Leongas has been planning the event with marketing director, Sean Ginnelly. “We decided on UNICEF because the charity has such a strong foundation. We knew that families attending would feel an emotional connection knowing they are supporting impoverished children around the world,” said Ginnelly.
UNICEF works in more than 190 countries and territories to save and improve children's lives by providing health care and immunizations, clean water and sanitation, nutrition, education, emergency relief and more. Ginnelly added, “In our planning, we actually learned that St. Patrick himself was impoverished as a child, which ties everything together for us.”
The Curragh Traditional Irish Pub has garnered a reputation for great food and true Irish hospitality. It received the Guinness Gold Standard Award for the perfect pint in 2002. Since the pub culture plays an important role in the social life of Ireland, it became the pub’s mission to bring Ireland’s pub culture to America. The pub first opened its doors in June 1999 and was located in Schaumburg, Ill. After several successful years of operation in Schaumburg, Edison Park, a small community in Chicago, became the Curragh’s new home. It is located at 6705 N. Northwest Highway, Chicago, IL. Other locations include Skokie, Ill., Holland, Mich., and Glenview, Ill. Kitchen hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday-Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The bar stays open until 2 a.m. Sunday-Friday and until 3 a.m. on Saturdays. Visit www.curraghirishpub.com or call (773)-774-6170 to make a reservation.
